African Drumming & Dance in Schools
Afrobeat offer instructional cultural workshops in African drumming and African dance, interactive drumming shows, interactive cultural performances, and drum circle facilitation training in schools. Afrobeat caters to both Secondary and Primary Schools, as well as teachers!
Secondary Schools
The content, structure and presentation of our programs address a number of objectives from the Curriculum standards identified for student learning. These relate to social, physical and personal learning and support various aspects of interpersonal development, through Drama, Dance, Music, PE, Geography, History, Social studies, LOTE, English, ESL and more! Our programs cater for all students including those with special needs and are adapted to suit students’ physical, intellectual, emotional and development needs.
Interactive performances and participatory workshops are designed around particular themes, where the cultural and social significance of each drum and dance piece, the rhythms, traditional folklore, and instruments are explained. Students will also learn African greetings, vocal percussion, call and response, identify specific dance movements, the different drums and how to play them.

African Drumming - Workshop/Courses
Duration: 60 min Group size: Up to 20 Suit: Classroom workshops.
Description: Our African Drumming Workshops are fun, entertaining, and cultural. Participants learn the art of working together without words, building dynamic sounds and polyrhythmic compositions traditional to West African Music. Students learn Djembe, and Doundoun drumming technique, the cultural significance and context behind traditional rhythms, and the relationship between drummer and dancer. Workshops can be designed around particular themes to suit your study focus or desired outcomes.

Description: Learn traditional West African movements and dance sequences. West African Dance combines elements of culture, music, rhythm, song and fitness that engage mind, body and spirit. Workshops can be designed around particular themes, where the cultural and social significance of each rhythm and dance is explained. Our dance workshops can be accompanied by live drumming giving participants an opportunity to discover the unique dialogue and relationship between drummer and dancer!

DRUMS TALK! Interactive Drumming Show

Description: DRUMS TALK! is a colourful and theatrical interactive Drumming Show where everyone in our audience gets a drum or percussion instrument and is invited to join in! Ditch the role of spectator, the show! Within minutes, our young audiences become a lively orchestra. Their beats fall in together to create a percussive locomotive filled with enthusiasm and joy! Learn how to facilitate rhythm games and activities for multiple group applications, using drums, percussion, voice, and movement.
